The Similaun Hut is located at an elevation of 3,019 m on the Niederjoch – a historic border crossing between South Tyrol and North Tyrol.
The hut was built in 1898 by Serafin Gurschler and has been owned by the Platzgummer-Pirpamer family for four generations.
From the very beginning, the Similaun Hut has been known for its good food and excellent South Tyrolean wine, and it is a popular destination for day trips as well as an important base for mountain tours.
…for glacier tours, ice courses, and the classic Ötztal circular tour.
At the Hauslabjoch, 230 vertical meters above the hut, the Iceman, known as Ötzi, was discovered in 1991. A stone pyramid has been erected at the discovery site. In summer, it can be reached from the Similaun Hut in about 1 hour and 20 minutes via a well-marked path, which is partially secured with steel cables.
