Mountaineering paradise

Our mountain refuge is located at an elevation of 3,019 m on the Niederjoch, which serves as a passage from North Tyrol to South Tyrol. It is an important base for high-alpine tours on the Similaun, a stage on many circular hikes, and also a worthwhile destination for a day trip. The ascent from Vernagt in the Schnalstal Valley is the shortest route to the hut and is considered one of the most beautiful hut hikes in South Tyrol.

Our refuge is especially appreciated by ski mountaineers and alpinists, but also by snowshoe hikers. The hut manager Markus is an enthusiastic mountain guide and is happy to support you on your tours, for example on a hike to the Ötzi discovery site at Tisenjoch or on the ascent of the Similaun.
